His Excellency Zhang Yesui
Zhang Yesui became ambassador of China to the United States on March 29, 2010.

Ambassador Zhang previously served as China’s permanent representative to the United Nations from 2008 until March of 2010, as well as China’s vice minister of foreign affairs from 2003 to 2008, specializing in policy planning, African, European, North American and Oceanian affairs, arms control and disarmament, and international treaties and law.

In addition, he served as assistant minister of foreign affairs (2000-03), director-general of the Protocol Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (1996-2000), as well as several postings in the ministry’s Department of International Organizations and Conferences, including counselor and then deputy director-general (1992-96), as well as third secretary, deputy division director and then first secretary (1982-88). He was also first secretary and counselor with the Chinese Permanent Mission to the United Nations (1988-92) and a staff member and attaché at the Chinese Embassy to the United Kingdom (1976-82).

Ambassador Zhang graduated from Beijing Foreign Studies University and studied at the London School of Economics.

He is married with a daughter.
