Michael Wilson became ambassador of Canada to the United States on March 13, 2006.
Ambassador Wilson previously served as chairman of UBS Canada, an operating division of UBS AGone of the worlds leading financial institutions. He oversaw all UBS operations in Canada, which included the investment bank, pension fund management and wealth management businesses. Prior to joining UBS in July 2001, Ambassador Wilson was responsible for RBC Financial Groups institutional asset management business, also serving as vice chairman of RBC Dominion Securities. In 1979, Ambassador Wilson was elected to the House of Commons, and in 1984, he was appointed finance minister, remaining in that role until May 1991, after which he became minister of industry, science and technology, as well as minister for international trade. Prior to his career in public life,
Ambassador Wilsons career was in investment banking, serving as director of a number of companies, including BP P.L.C. and Manulife Financial.
Ambassador Wilson, who is an officer of the Order of Canada, holds honorary degrees from the University of Toronto and York University. |
