Colombia
Carolina Barco became ambassador of Colombia to the United States on Sept. 7. Ambassador Barco, who most recently served as the Colombian minister of foreign affairs (2002-06), has a long career in the public sector, including postings as director of the City Planning Department in Bogotá and adviser to the ministries of Development, Culture and Environment, as well as to the National Planning Department and the Office of the Mayor of Bogotá.

Ambassador Barco also worked as an international cooperation adviser to the U.N. Development Program, as a researcher at Universidad de los Andes, and as a member of the Lincoln Institute of Land Policy’s Board of Directors.

She holds a bachelor’s degree in social and economic sciences and a master’s degree in business administration and urban and regional planning.

Czech Republic
Ivo Broskevic departed the post of second secretary (cultural) on Aug. 23.

Jiri Ellinger assumed the position of first secretary (political) on Aug. 28.

Ivona Hola assumed the position of third secretary (political) on Aug. 22, replacing Martina Tauberova, who departed the post on Aug. 12.

Hungary
Sándor Bognár assumed the position of counselor, cultural attaché on Sept. 1. Bognár, an economist specializing in Oriental studies, previously served postings in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (2003-06; 1997-98), as commercial counselor at the Hungarian Embassy in Finland (1998-2003), and commercial secretary at the Hungarian Embassy in Israel (1990-94), as well as a counselor with the Hungarian Chamber of Commerce (1977-80).

Károly Dán departed the post of second secretary, cultural attaché on July 15.

Maj. Gyozo Palicz assumed the position of assistant defense, military and air attaché on Aug. 16, replacing Maj. Zoltán Bóné, who departed the post on Aug. 16. Palicz previously served as deputy head of the International Cooperation Division at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (2003-07) and as an intelligence officer and analyst to various organizations (2000-03). A graduate of the Military Academy in Budapest, he is married with one son.

Lithuania
Liutauras Bauza assumed the position of public and press first secretary on Aug. 21, replacing Cestas Vaskelevicius, who departed the post on Aug. 21.

Nida Dalmantaite assumed the position of first secretary on Aug. 28. Dalmantaite previously served in the Security Policy Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (2004-06), at the Lithuanian Embassy in Italy (2001-04), and in the Political Department of the Foreign Affairs Ministry (1997-2001).

Jurgita Dapkute departed the post of third secretary on Aug. 28.

Dalia Kadisiene assumed the position of minister counselor on Aug. 16, replacing Jolanda Kriskovieciene, who departed the post on Aug. 16. Kadisiene previously served as head of division at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and as a counselor in the Lithuanian Embassy in Poland.

Macedonia
Ljupco Jordanovski became ambassador of Macedonia to the United States on June 26. Ambassador Jordanovski previously served as acting president of Macedonia (July 2004-December 2004) and as president of the Macedonian Assembly (2003-06). In addition, he was a member of Parliament and chairman of the Committee on Elections and Appointment Issues (2002), as well as a member of the Social Democratic Union of Macedonia party in various capacities from 1991 to 2003. Ambassador Jordanovski also taught at the Saints Cyril and Methodius University, beginning as an assistant professor in 1978 and finishing as a professor and head of the Seismological Observatory with the faculty of natural science and mathematics in 2003. Ambassador Jordanovski holds bachelor and master’s degrees from the University of Zagreb’s faculty of electrical engineering and a doctorate from the Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Southern California.

Tanya Harris-Joshua departed the post of first secretary (political and economical) on Aug. 4.

Spain
José Pascual Marco Martinez assumed the position of minister counselor, deputy chief of mission on Sept. 1, replacing Felix Valdes, who departed the post on July 31.

Sweden
Anders J. Ericson assumed the position of press counselor on June 2, replacing Claes Thorson.

Syria
Ammar Al Arsan departed the post of third secretary on Aug. 1.

Tunisia
Riadh Dridi departed the post of counselor on Aug. 1. Farhad Khlif assumed the position of counselor on Aug. 18.

Tarek Ben Youssef assumed the position of counselor on Aug. 28.

Turkey
Murat Karagoz assumed the position of counselor on Sept. 1.

Timur Soylemez departed the post of first secretary on Sept. 1.
