Appointments, October 2003

Egypt

• Badr Ahmed Mohamed Abdelatty assumed the position of first secretary on July 16, replacing Mohamed Ahmed Fathi Abulkheir, who departed the post on July 26 after five years of service. Abdelatty previously served as a first secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (2001-03) and at the Egyptian Embassy in Japan (1997-2001). Abulkheir previously served as a second secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (1996-98) and third secretary at the Egyptian Embassy in Tunisia (1992-96).

• Wael Ahmed Kamal Aboulmagd assumed the position of counselor on Aug. 18, replacing Hala A.F.A. El Ghannam, who departed the post on May 30 after six years of service. Aboulmagd previously served as a counselor in the cabinet of the Egyptian foreign minister (2001-03) and first secretary at the Egyptian Embassy in India (1998-2001). Ghannam previously served as press secretary to the Egyptian minister of foreign affairs (1992-97).

• Mohamed Hatem Hassenein El Atawy departed the post of third secretary on Sept. 6 after four years of service. Atawy previously served as a diplomatic attaché at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (1997-99).

• Hisham Ahmed Mamdouh Abdel Hakim assumed the position of counselor on Aug. 19, replacing Hamdy Mohamed Ahmed M. Elsayed, who departed the post on Aug. 28 after two years of service. Hakim previously served as a counselor at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (1998-2003). Elsayed also previously served as a counselor at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (1998-2001) and a manager in the Egyptian Press Office (1995-98).

Honduras

• Sergio Membreno Cedillo assumed the position of deputy chief of missi on on April 10, replacing Jose Benjamin Zapata, who departed the post on July 30, 2002. Cedillo has more than 20 years of experience in formulating economic policy and development projects, having last served as chief economist of the United Nations Development Program in Honduras.

Lithuania

• Jurgita Dapkute assumed the position of cultural and educational affairs third secretary in August having previously served as a third secretary in the Western Europe Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

• Kestutis Jankauskas departed the post of deputy chief of mission, minister-counselor of political affairs in August.

• Rolandas Kacinskas departed the post of press and public affairs first secretary in July.

• Dina Kopilevic departed the post of third secretary in July.

• Andrius Krivas assumed the position of political affairs counselor in August having previously served as a counselor in the NATO Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (2001-03) and director of the International Relations Department at the Ministry of Defense (1997-2001).

• Kestutis Vaskelevicius assumed the position of press and public affairs third secretary in July having previously served in the Foreign Policy Analysis and Planning Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
