Appointments, April 2002

Kenya

•Thomas Amolo assumed the position of counselor-head of chancery on April 2, replacing George Owour, who has been appointed chief of protocol in Kenya. Amolo has been the political counselor at the embassy since August 2000. He previously served as the deputy director of the economic and trade division and the international organizations and conference division at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Nairobi, and as second secretary and first secretary at the embassy in Washington, D.C. He has also worked with the Kenyan Permanent Mission at the United Nations. Amolo graduated from the University of Nairobi and is married with two children.

Mozambique

•Fernando Felisberto Goenha assumed the position of financial attaché on Feb. 19, replacing Guida Alegre who is scheduled to depart Washington on May 1. Goenha previously served as the head of the administration office in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Mozambique and as financial attaché at the Embassy of Mozambique in Zambia.

•Antonio Rodrigues Jose assumed the position of first secretary for the Embassy of Mozambique on Feb. 8. He previously served as department head of the Directorate for Europe and America at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Mozambique and as third and second secretary at the Embassy of Mozambique in Tanzania.

Netherlands

•Boudewijn Johannes Van Eenennaam became ambassador of the Netherlands to the United States on March 11. He previously served as director-general (1997-2001) and deputy director-general (1993-1997) for political affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs at the Hague, and as director of the Atlantic Cooperation and Security Affairs Department at the ministry from 1990 to 1993. He has also served as a political advisor to the Netherlands Permanent Mission to NATO in Brussels (1988-1990) and as a counselor for political affairs at the Royal Netherlands Embassy in Washington (1984-1988). Ambassador Eenennaam graduated from the University of Leyden with a law degree in 1973 and regularly publishes articles on international security issues in newspapers and journals.

Singapore

•Ariel Tan assumed the position of first secretary in February, replacing Li Peng Kok.
