NARSAD Gala Raises $1.4 Million

The National Alliance for Research on Schizophrenia and Depression (NARSAD) brought its worthy cause to the nationís capital during a recent weekend of activities that was highlighted by the organizationís debut gala held at the International Spy Museum.

The elaborate event, which drew spies, scientists and other Washington notables, raised $1.4 million for scientific research into brain disorders. The ìMission Possible VIP Reception and Galaî featured cuisine catered by the popular Zola restaurant and a silent auction with some intriguing prizes up for grabs, such as an evening with a ìSoviet spy masterî and a customized disguise session with former CIA chiefs of disguise.

After the main event, guests could take a tour of the museum and see its expansive collection of artifactsóthe largest in the worldóshowcasing with the fascinating world espionage.

NARSAD also held its first Washington, D.C., Scientific Symposium following the gala at the George Washington University, where three of the nationís leading neuroscientists discussed such topics as childhood psychiatric disorders, depression and schizophren ia.

Every dollar contributed to NARSAD goes directly to fund research. The organization has been supported over the years by an array of prominent Washingtonians, including the Washington Postís Katharine Graham, Milton Maltz, founder of the Spy Museum, and various members of Congress.

Since 1987, NARSAD has awarded $144 million to scientists throughout the world, including three NARSAD-affiliated researchers who have won Nobel prizes in medicine.
