Letter to the Editor:

I am writing you in conjunction with the article entitled ìLawyers Line Up to Get Piece of Embassy Lobbying Businessî by Larry Luxner which appeared in the January 2004 edition of The Washington Diplomat.

While the article starts off as an objective analysis of how Embassyís here in DC are using lobbying companies to further their goals, the second part of Luxnerís piece which devotes ten paragraphs to the ìArmenian National Committee of Americaî (ANCA) is biased, tainted and unacceptable.

In this regard, it has not escaped our attention that The Washington Diplomat, through this article, is again sadly taking sides on a highly contested issue by allowing itself to become a propaganda tool of the ANCA. Why this would be done by The Washington Diplomat, knowing full well that the included references and language are highly objectionable and hurtful to at least one Embassy, is truly disturbing.

It saddens me and my colleagues to see The Washington Diplomat is not able to show the least amount of care when it comes to such matters and thus alienate the staff of one Embassy and the people of the country it represents. There is no doubt that The Washington Diplomat, by vir tue of it name and targeted audience, would do much better if it did not become a party to such disputed and politically charged issues or if and when it does, provide an equal opportunity for the other side of the story to be heard.

Sincerely,

Timur S^ylemez
First Secretary
Embassy of Turkey
