Letter to the Editor: "Religious Fervor May Dominate Emerging Indian State of Nagalim"
- October 2003 I would like to express my deep gratitude for publishing our news in your magazine. I just want to give a correction of the headline in which you mentioned ìemerging Indian state of Nagalim.î
This can be misunderstood by people as if we are a state in India. The fact is that Nagas never accepted India State or join their union. And recently the government of India has also recognized the fact that the history of the Nagas is unique which means they never joined the Indian union at any stage of time. Therefore negotiation is going on for the last six years examining the historical facts that the Nagas are not Indians. They are negotiating the terms of agreement between the two nations. Therefore it cannot be termed as ìemerging Indian state of Nagalim.
Would you kindly correct this point which can possibly mislead people who do not have heard about the Nagas may think that we are going to accept Indian State or join their Union since the case of the Nagas is not a question of cessation or separation. India never conquered the Nagas neither by conquest nor by consent
. And as such they have also admitted that as fact and have recognized the uniqueness of Naga history and situation of the Nagas.
Sincerely,
Isak Chishi Swu
Chairman of the National Socialist Council of Nagalim
