Letter to the Editor

I am writing to you with regards to the article written by Ky Nguyen that appears in your December 2002 edition under the section ìFilm Interviewî entitled ìA Task of Enormity.î

I would like to inform you that we were astonished to observe that this article refers to a certain ìlegacy of the relatively unknown Armenian genocide in Turkey during World War I.î In this vein, I am compelled to bring to your attention the fact that the Armenian allegations of genocide referred to in this article has never been historically or legally substantiated in any serious manner. It is a historical fact and indeed a tragedy that many Ottoman Armenians, together with Muslims, Jews and others perished in a time of conflict and strife in eastern Anatolia during the First World War.

There are always two sides to every story. The thrust of this article is biased with disregard to the other point of view. In doing so, you have openly taken sides on a highly sensitive issue. This type of journalism disregards objectivity, and is contrary to the established practices of diplomacy, a concept, that according to the title of your publication, you should embrace.
