Italian Friends
The sounds of Italy came to Washington as Claudio Scimone, founder and conductor of the I Solisti Veneti orchestra, led his ensemble in a stirring concert held at the Italian Embassy. A beautiful cacophony of classical music resonated throughout the grand hall of the Italian Embassy as the works of Niccolo Paganini, Antonio Vivaldi and other influential composers provided a soothing escape from the hectic traffic jam outside on Massachusetts Avenue.
The Italian Embassy, with the support of the Istituto Italiano di Cultura, presented the concert to benefit the Friends of FAI, the U.S. wing of the Italian-based group Fondo per líAmbiente Italiano (FAI), which has worked to preserve the cultural heritage and environment of Italy for more than 25 years.
Representatives of FAI and the Friends of FAI thanked the audience for coming to this special event, as well as the sponsors who supported the concert, which, in addition to the Italian Embassy, included Giorgio Armani and the companies Bracco and Marsh.
After the concert, the large crowd got a chance to explore the bright, modern designs of the embassy as they sampled a sweet array of Italian delicacies and desserts.
The event not only provided Amer
ican audiences with a unique glimpse into Italian culture, but it also introduced them to FAI, one of the main forces behind preserving that culture for all the world to enjoy.
